DANCING LASER LIGHTS
by Alex Zvenigorodsky
QUICK DOCUMENTATION
Quick Intro:
Dancing Laser Lights (as the title may or may not suggest)
Is just a program that's good to look at. (I love those kind.)
The best thing to do, is to put on some music, (preferebly New Age,
and my best recommendation for that is Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene.)
sit back, and let your eyes feast. The colors, the rhythms, the
motions, and the balance of the dancing is so that it captivates your
mind. (Trust me I've been staring at it a long time)
And now, a quick hello:
Hello out there. This is the first program that I've put out to
the general public. So in order to let everyone know who I am, I'll simply
blurt it out. I'm Alex. HI! Nice to meet you. Anyways, I've been working
on this program for...(let's see here...one, two, three...) Well a VERY long
time. The reason being...I've been working my way through math, and computer
programming. So, having all this knowledge in my noodle, and in order to
answer the question that each schoolboy asks his teacher when he/she gets
the opportunity, "When are we ever going to use this stuff?", I made this
program. (Read that last sentance again, you'll be quized on it, come
Monday.)
Here I've put together my vast knowledge of geometry, trigonometry,
Algebra, Calculus, Ergodynamics, Physics, and Sasquach history. (Throw in
a dash of vinegar, and knead gently between the thumb and forefinger, until
browned.) Anyways, send me all of your comments, suggestions, women and
children. (Wait...just women.) And If you really like this program,
then send me a donation to my cause. (The pursuit of truth, happiness,
and more intelligent, and friendlier computers.) $5.00 is the amount I'd
recommend. (Although if you dig deep, and dig out a few extra pennies,
I won't object.)
Send comments, and women to:

QUICK INSTRUCTIONS
(as opposed to slow instructions for slow readers.)
---------------------------------------------------
CONTROLS:
Use the numeric keypad. And make sure NUM LOCK is on.
The cursor is just a line underneath each selection.
ESC will let you escape from just about anywhere.
SPACE either selects RND for that menu option,
or works the same as ENTER.
ENTER selects the option, or toggles the option.
MENU ITEMS
---------------------------------------------------
RESOLUTION:
Choices are (320x200 256 colors)
and (640x480 16 colors)
SPACE selects random resolution before each run of the
show.
COLOR CYCLE FORM:
There are several choices from which you can select,
or have the computer select random decisions.
Each cycle form uses different algorithms to change
the colors. (All color transitions, by the way, are
smooth. One thing I can't stand is people that make
programs like these and don't program nice color
transitions.)
SPEEDS:
Laser speed: selects how fast the laser moves.
(Expirement with slow and fast speeds.)
Color speed: selects how fast the colors will change into
other colors. (For 640x480, try quicker speeds)
(As usual, space selects RND which is explained
below.)
MIRRORS:
Xmirror: sets a mirror down the center of the screen.
Ymirror: sets a mirror across the center of the screen.
XYmirror: sets a diagonal, inverted mirror. (Just try it.)
(If both X, and Y mirrors are set, there will be
interesting results.)
TAIL LENGTH:
Is simply that. Play around with small and large
tail lengths. The best lengths are
25 for 640x480
50+ for 320x200
ELASTIC:
About one point: One point is attracted to the other.
About two points: Both points are attracted to each other.
Distance: The distance the points can be apart before attraction
begins.
Force: (kind of self explanitory)
(I recommend letting the computer select random
elastisity each time. And don't set the force too
high manually, since it keeps the displays smaller.)
GRAVITY:
Each point can have its own gravity pull.
Force: read (Force: above)
TIME:
The number of seconds that a show runs before
1) Returning to the menu.
2) Picking new RND selections and running again.
(If TIME is taken to 600 seconds. It will become
"UNLIMITED.")
CONTINUOUS PLAY:
Selects whether the show returns to the menu after
running a show, or picks new RND selections
and returning to a new show.
LET'S SEE WHAT THIS DOES!:
(Self explanitory. Sets the show a'go)
DICTIONARY OF UNUSUAL TERMS:
RND: (Random) Let's the computer pick random choices
for each selection.
SPACE: (As in the SPACE BAR, not as in "Lost in..."
I think it was Hamlet that first said,
"What delight forebrings it, space.
That without it, WEWOULDTALKLIKETHIS."
Sets RND for each selection.
---------------------------------------------------
That's it! Enjoy, and may your middle aged chickens
never flee.
